Chorus History

The Ocean Bay Chorus was chartered on February 11, 1985 as a chapter of Sweet Adelines, International, after completing a five year prospective status.  There were 25 members at that time, with one member still remaining in the chorus today.  The chorus grew to its largest size, almost 50 members, in the 1990’s, at the height of barbershop popularity.

The chorus has regularly participated in Sweet Adelines’ regional competitions which have been held in various locations over the years from Philadelphia to Washington DC to Ocean City to Hershey, PA.  One of the proudest moments came in 2003 when the chorus was awarded the 2nd Place ribbon for their division, and 9th Place overall for the region.  But regardless of the results any given year, they always have a great time being among the other choruses and upping their game in preparation for the competition.
